Outdoor Living Design Goals
This patio renovation in Zionsville began with a common challenge; a small, builder-installed deck landing that offered little usable space. The homeowners wanted a fully functional outdoor living area that would support cooking, dining, and relaxing while enhancing the overall value and enjoyment of their backyard.
Demolition & Site Transformation
Our team removed the existing deck landing and reimagined the footprint to create a cohesive and intentional patio layout. The goal was not simply to replace the deck, but to design a true outdoor living environment that maximized space and flow.
Patio Design & Layout
We designed three distinct zones within the new patio space:
-
Grilling Station
-
Dining Area
The patio surface was constructed using Unilock Bristol Valley pavers in the Bavarian Blend color. A Unilock Brussels Block border in Sandstone was installed to frame the patio and coordinate with the vertical elements of the design, creating a clean and unified aesthetic.
Custom Seat Wall & Grilling Station
The seat wall and grill surround were constructed using Unilock Estate Wall in a mosaic pattern in the Sierra color. Brussels Fullnose coping in Sandstone was installed to provide a finished edge and tie into the patio border for visual continuity.
The grilling station creates a defined cooking area within the patio layout, improving functionality while maintaining a seamless design.
Natural Gas Fire Pit Feature
The fire pit was built using the same Unilock Estate Wall materials as the seat wall, ensuring consistency throughout the space. A natural gas line was installed for convenient, controlled operation. This feature anchors the seating area and serves as the central gathering point for the homeowners and their guests.
Landscape & Privacy Enhancements
To complete the transformation, we installed new landscape plantings along the back foundation to soften the hardscape and enhance curb appeal. Varying sizes of Norway Spruces were added along the perimeter to provide privacy from the street, creating a more secluded and comfortable backyard retreat.
A Functional & Cohesive Outdoor Living Space
By replacing a small, underutilized deck with a thoughtfully designed patio, this Zionsville project delivers multiple functional zones within one cohesive space. The combination of high-quality materials, intentional layout, and privacy landscaping creates an outdoor environment built for entertaining, relaxing, and long-term enjoyment.
