Outdoor Living Design Goals

This Backyard Enclave project was designed for homeowners seeking a long-term master plan that could be implemented in phases. The goal was to create a structured, comfortable outdoor living environment while allowing flexibility for future enhancements.

Demolition & Site Preparation

Our team began by removing the original concrete slab installed by the home builder. This provided a clean foundation for a more intentional and visually cohesive patio design that better aligned with the homeowners’ vision.

Patio Design & Installation

The new patio was constructed using Unilock Beacon Hill Flagstone slabs in the Alpine Grey color, bordered with a 4×8 Holland paver in Charcoal for contrast and definition. The clean lines and neutral tones create a timeless aesthetic that complements both the home and the surrounding landscape.

Pergola Construction

To define the space and add architectural interest, we built a pergola using rough-sawn cedar lumber finished in a dark Timber Ox stain. The rich wood tones provide warmth and vertical structure, transforming the patio into a true outdoor room while offering filtered shade and visual enclosure.

Custom Step Installation

Transitioning from the home to the patio, we installed 6-foot-wide Unilock Ledgestone steps measuring 24 inches deep with a 6-inch riser. Each step weighs approximately 860 pounds, providing substantial presence and long-term durability. These oversized steps create a strong visual and functional connection between indoor and outdoor spaces.

Landscape & Privacy Enhancements

To soften the hardscape and provide filtered privacy along the property lines, we installed various perimeter plantings. These additions help frame the patio, enhance comfort, and create a more secluded backyard experience without fully closing off the space.

A Phased Plan with Lasting Impact

Designed for phased installation, this Backyard Enclave delivers both immediate functionality and room for future growth. The cohesive patio, pergola, and landscape design not only transformed the property but also generated two additional referrals within the neighborhood, demonstrating the lasting impression of thoughtful outdoor living design.
